Who is Minnie E Miller?

Minne E. Miller is proof that life begins at any age you decide it should begin, and reinvention is truly the spice of life. In her own words here is her story. Come meet her Saturday at Authors and Artists Chicago.

Minnie writes:

I am a native Chicagoan, born at Cook County Hospital--we won't talk about the year.
I have been writing for many more years than the fourteen I consider my serious literary period. I attended Roosevelt University in Chicago where a very- English teacher encouraged me to explore my writing muse. In the beginning I had no idea what she was talking about. My muse? What's that? I was perplexed.

My last full time job was with the Office of the Mayor of San Francisco as special assistant to his press secretary. While there, I co-authored The San Francisco Mayor's Summit for Women, Summit Report 1998. I retired in 1999, left San Francisco, landed in Atlanta, Georgia, and worked in the City Council's Communications office as a freelancer. Heeding a whisper from my subconscious, I returned home but I still couldn't sit still. To my amazement, NBC5 Chicago WMAQ TV hired me part-time in the newsroom. The news junkie in me loved it.
My literary career grew strong wings in March 2003 when I published a book of short fiction stories titled Catharsis. I retired again in May 2004, devoted my time to writing The Seduction of Mr. Bradley and Blue Lady Rising. The Lady is still rising, however.
For years I suffered from wanderlust--inherited it from my mother, a casualty of an early divorce. I tried marriage at the age of twenty but realized early that it didn't work for me. Curiosity pulled me to London, Paris, Jamaica, and many U.S. cities .

trees that speak of miracles
I am just as unique.
That's what I say when I feel lonely.

Romantic ways to propose
new dances in the air
new paintings I gather material for.

I keep a lusty library

a goddess post on canvas planned.

Modern talking studio
my goals meet the day
speak back to me.
I take photos
intimate glamour photography
I always have.

Tell the others of their salvation
I am still looking for mine.
I kept it in an envelope once
inside a book
it must still be here somewhere?
Just a story to hold on to
when the lights go dim.

I am not really who I seem to be
nor are you I would suspect.
All those romantic ways to propose
tainted with selfish outcomes.
You want to own
or possess?

I groom my fallen tales well
never far from reach.
I take photographs before their recovery.
Mark the date and time.
Pay attention
lest you dine on similar skulls.
they seem to sing in the night
no matter the music is performed too late.
I'll blend the colors in later
modulate their meanings
Not to worry
you'll scarcely recognize yourself.

I will forever gather my images

I will file them

and paint lime green leaves
to cover their dreams.

British Airways Concorde Room at JFK

Monkdogz's latest exhibition of 8 exemplary artists sculptures is an installation in the most exclusive "flying club" in the world, the British Airways Concorde Room at New York's JFK International Airport.

The ConcordeRoom was designed by the CD partnership, Sir Terence Conran’s architecture and design practice, the Concorde Room at New York’s JFK airport for the ultimate jetsetters. The lounge is a design classic, like Concorde itself. Every piece of furniture is a celebration of 20th century design from the Corbusier chaise longue to the Matthew Hilton armchair, the Eileen Grey Bibendum chair to the Charles Eames lounger.

The lounge includes two wall drawings commissioned from distinguished artist Sol LeWitt at either end of the room. A mobile by Richard Smith shimmers in air currents behind the panels on the remaining side and a series of photographs of Marilyn Monroe by Eve Arnold are also highlights.

In this august setting, a sculpture wall was designed to showcase artwork between the main lounge and a smaller VIP room. The Monkdogz Exhibition has included Noël Dorado, James Armstrong, Sara Mills, Alex Racine, Charles Schindler, Rene Hinds, Kasper Holten, Richard Pitts, Sue Willis, Kevin Davenport, Sunia Boneham, Richardo Norte, Sylvia Hennequin and Laura Ann Jacobs.

Contemporary Art Today
History has dictated that occasionally windows of opportunity open within the art world. In the 1930s, artists like Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock just to name a couple, were afforded a platform to exhibit their work in New York City. The reception worldwide was significant. Again, in the early 1970s, artists like Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring were afforded the same opportunity.

We believe that as we go into 2007, the window opens once again but this time on a more international scale. The world today is very much a global village. Distances, time zones and different languages are no longer the barriers that they once were. The internet now allows us a level of communication that easily brings the world to us.

My Love Letter to Squidoo/My Create Art Squid Lens

Dear Cast of Characters of Squidoo,

This is a love letter from the heart, an open letter to the creators of Squidoo.

This is also my story.

I am an artist. I have been one since I was a little girl, making paper dolls in the back seat of my parents car, as they traveled the countryside. It was there that I began to connect with all the fantasies that would become me. Art is who I am.

In April of 2006 I fell down a full flight of stairs breaking my right wrist and and incurring permanent nerve damage in my hand and wrist.. I feared I would never paint again. People came to me and told me about others who painted with their mouths, stuff like that. I knew I should be grateful for what I had, but I was overwhelmed none the less. I simply could not have it, so I worked and worked to get some movement back. My efforts continue to this day.

After my fall I spend a lot of time on the computer. I typed with my left hand and right forefinger. I still type that way.

I am not quite sure how I first came across Squidoo. I think it may have been through Worldwide Woman Artists, probably so. I felt attracted to it because it was a way of making a website that I could actually do by myself. My official website is done by my webmaster and beyond my ability and knowledge to maintain. I needed to do something myself, fill up the space that had been taken over with self pity. I needed my confidence refreshed. If I could not paint then at least I could promote what I already had.

At first I thought, "Oh man this is over my head and I can't do this."

BUT I DID!

I jumped in, and even though I got a bit confused at times, frustrated with the slowness of my typing, the directions were pretty clear and I figured it out. I made a little lens and felt darn proud of myself. Fantasy Art Woman|Beautiful Women Goddess Art: http://www.squidoo.com/kathysart was born!
I plugged it everywhere I could think of. I posted it on my blogs and My Space and even put it in bulletins. I wrote articles, posted them on ezines and put the url of my Squidoo lens in my resource box.

Then I let it sit there. I began to feel depressed about my disability. I ignored it for months expecting it to fly on its own. I considered it finished and in a way I considered me to be finished as well.

I continued on with physical therapy though. I cried a lot but I continued on. I am my therapists and doctors success story. I have not gained it all back but last February I began to paint again. It was awkward at first but I have adjusted. I have also gained back some confidence.

I have a total of seven lenses now. Each one of them has a common goal that I did not realize until today, not really. The goal? I think it was to define my own self. As I wrote the text for each one I realized how much creativity has given to me. I realized that by sharing my feelings, creating these Squidoo lenses about art, that I was confirming in my own heart exactly what motivates me as a visionary. With each module I added, be it Amazon, iTunes, Overstock or UTube or others that are offered, I found books and flowers and chocolate, I even offer trips to Paris to see the art there. Yes, as I have written for each Squidoo lens I have indeed created a fantasy of the heart. I became the fantasy fairy that I often describe.

A couple of weeks ago it dawned on me that my Squidoo lenses were like my home. I added music for my company, just like I would do if someone came over for dinner. After my introduction on my lenses I invite people to turn on the UTube music I selected, while they visit me there. I created an ambiance for my guests. And just like my home? I check on my lenses every few days, sometimes more, to make sure everything is in place and ready for company.

So thank you to the cast of characters of Squidoo. Thank you Seth, Megan, Corey, Gil and the rest of all the smarties on the Squidoo team that created and maintain the opportunity to not only create, but to heal.
